Saving Deepwood
The threat of demolition led to an extensive movement to save Deepwood starting in 1968.
In 1971 the property was purchased by the City of Salem and subsequently added to the National Register of Historic Places. The property is now managed by the nonprofit organization, Friends of Deepwood, founded in 1974. With the help of the City of Salem, the Deepwood Gardeners, and the Lord & Schryver Conservancy, the house and grounds are lovingly maintained for public enjoyment.
Restoration Projects
The Friends of Deepwood have worked hard over the past 40 years to restore the home and maintain a vibrant collection of artifacts & archival materials.
A number of restoration projects have been completed over the past few years, including:
- Restoration of the Alice Brown Suite - 2013
- Kitchen Restoration - 2007
